Going Out

What a night, what a place...

Wow...

Went to see The Marriage of Figaro at the Royal Opera House in London.

The current building is the third theatre on the site, following disastrous fires in 1808 and 1856 at previous buildings. The façade, foyer, and auditorium date from 1858, but almost every other element of the present complex dates from an extensive reconstruction in the 1990s. {.boxedIn}

The building has also undergone some extensive refurbishment of the lighting. There is a fabulous article right here. {.boxedIn}

The ticket was a mere 40 quid, and we had a fantastic view from up in the gods in this fantastic building. However it did cost 12 quid for a cheap glass of wine!!

What a place! We should all be very proud of this building and what it produces. Yes, it can be expensive, but if you book early, you can get a really good, cheap seat.

An excellent night out was had...

It looks like a piece of clever graffiti!

While walking in Covent Garden just the other day, on my way to the Royal Opera House I might add, I looked down a very narrow alleyway just of Floral Street WC2. It was all life going on at the end of the alley, but it looked like a posterised print in the hot afternoon sun. I couldn't help but snap it...

The night before the longest day...

Tonight is the night before the longest day, so what a treat we had with this rare sunset at Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight on our way home from visiting friends.
